Born 5-1-23. Some years we do a fun theme for names. This year we decided to go with Geology and things that come from the ground. Many of these names are a little loose in thoughts regarding if they are elements, minerals, rocks, gemstones or colors etc. Citrine the transparent orangish variety of quartz. It is the perfect color for a chestnut filly. It can be yellow to brown as well.
‘Citrine’ has a star and left rear white ankle. This one is a bit special because her mother was our very first Paddys Irish Whiskey daughter. We acquired her from Wylie Gustafson of Cross 3 Quarter Horses. We have always owned several Paddys Irish Whiskey sons and her dam, Magnolia Whiskey, is one of six daughters we now own. Magnolia Whiskey aka Rio is a point and money earner by Paddys Irish Whiskey. As per the 6666’s website, Paddys Irish Whiskey has earned the respect as a consistent sire of both class and high-end trainability for all walks of the reining and cowhorse worlds, siring champions in versatility ranch horse, reined cowhorse, cutting, reining, calf roping and team roping. He is also a great broodmare sire. Rio’s dam was never shown herself, but she is a producing daughter of High Brow Hickory out of a Doc Quixote daughter. Rio has earned 14 AQHA pts. in heading and heeling. She qualified her 1st year of roping for the 2018 AQHA World Finals in JR Heeling where she placed in the Top Fifteen. She is a stout built mare with the athletic ability to really shine. We have also shown her in reined cow horse a bit where she placed 1st in the North Central RCHA 5 YO open class earning her $60 but heeling seemed to be her “thing”! Rio stayed sound and showed us her ability, so we decided it was time for her to have a baby for us. We bred her to Bet Hesa Cat for 2020 and got a filly, Irish Whiskey Bet, who we have retained as a broodmare and show prospect for ourselves. She currently is in cutting training and plans are for her to show in some futurities starting this summer 2023. The 2021 foal, Maggie Bartender JW, went to TX as a broodmare prospect for the 6666’s stallion manager personal remuda. 2022 full sibling, Coral Bartender JW, is still available for sale.
Citrine’s sire is Jacks Our Bartender a son of Bartenders Memory by Two ID Bartender and out of a granddaughter of Two Eyed Jack, Watch Miss Jo Jackie, born in 2003. Unfortunately, due to a stifle injury from being kicked by a mare, Jack was not able to stay sound enough to enter the show ring but was able to prove his athletic ability. Since then several of his colts have ended up in the roping arena and continue to prove their athleticism and great minds. By 2015 Hockenson’s realized that he was producing some really great roping horses and decided to see if they could keep his stifle sound enough to show and sure enough in a very short time, he quickly earned 5.5 AQHA Heading Points of his own proving that his offspring accomplishments were not by chance. He is a great horse to be around and out produces himself every time. Jack has 3 AQHA performing offspring. Many of his other foals have gone on to be great rodeo horses or rope horses competing and earning money in different associations.
Citrine should have the athletic ability and size to be able to perform competitively in the roping industry, but not limited to other disciplines. She is very graceful and looks like she should head to an arena. She will be for sale.
