Born 5-13-25. Some years we do a fun theme for names. This year we have chosen movie themes for our different stallions. Top Gun Whiskey foals will be named after the Top Gun Call Signs from the original 1986 movie. Next year we will do similar call signs from the 2022 movie. Our other stallions will have Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit themed names. This colt is named Gimli. Gimli is a fictional character primarily appearing in The Lord of the Rings. He is a Dwarf warrior and the son of Glóin, a member of Thorin Oakenshield's company. Unlike other Dwarves, Gimli readily fights alongside Elves during the War of the Ring against Sauron. Gimli is a scruffy, red-headed guy and so his appearance fits this colt.
‘Gimli’ is a red roan stallion with a large star with a thin connecting strip that goes down the left side of his face, high white rear pasterns and a front left pastern that is higher in the back. His mama, Whiskey Up Roan JW aka Fin, is a mare we raised out of one of our senior mares, Fancy Roan Belle aka Roany. Fancy Roan Belle was an awesome, proven 87% NFQHA proven mare who is a very integral part of our program. Let’s look at the mare’s pedigree deep in Reeves breeding from South Dakota--Fancy Roan Bar, Roan Bar, Bell Boy Bar, Tom Baker, Bar Nothing Springer and Bartender. You cannot ask for a better foundation, ranch, cow, or arena bloodline. This mare puts a very nice disposition on her foals. Fin was her 14th foal and she had one more before being retired in 2018. In addition to Fin, we have two other daughters of Roany, Docs Fancy Roan and Peponita Roan Bar JW. Whiskey Up Roan JW’s sire is our own Whoop Up Whiskey. ‘Whoop’ is a 2010 son of Paddys Irish Whiskey and out of a great John Scott mare, My Little Sugar Babe. The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile, Whoop’s dam goes to Doc O Dynamite who also stood at the John Scott Ranch. Doc O Dynamite was an Equi-State leading cutting sire from 1999-2005 who produced money earners and according to his performance record, his daughters have produced many money earning foals in AQHA, NCHA, NRHA and NRCHA. Doc O Dynamite has a pedigree that traces back to Three Bars giving a bit more stretch and speed to his offspring and shows up on the pedigree of many arena and speed event horses. Whoop brings that little more height and length and speed to our program. He has excellent bone, athleticism and conformation. His lineage tells us that his offspring will have cow and will be capable of performing at any level and we are hearing great things about his offspring. Fin’s first foal, Khan Bartender JW, ended up in Kansas. Her 2021 foal, Cypress Bartender JW, went to MT. She had another full sibling in 2022, Orca Bartender JW, that went with a repeat buyer in VA. Her 2023 filly was, Larimar Bartender JW, and her 2024 foal stallion was, Condor Bartender JW We have retained Larimar and Condor for ourselves as breeding prospects. This cross is producing exceptional foals. Condor is 7 panel NN and Homozygous Roan and Homozygous for black legs. He will be a potential replacement for sire, Jack. He is dark bay roan and will always produce bay roan offspring and a 50% chance of buckskin roan on cream dilute mares.
Gimli’s sire is Jacks Our Bartender. Jacks Our Bartender is a son of Bartenders Memory by Two ID Bartender and out of a granddaughter of Two Eyed Jack, Watch Miss Jo Jackie, born in 2003. Unfortunately, due to a stifle injury from being kicked by a mare, Jack was not able to stay sound enough to enter the show ring but was able to prove his athletic ability. Since then, several of his colts have ended up in the roping arena and continue to prove their athleticism and great minds. By 2015 Hockenson’s realized that he was producing some really great roping horses and decided to see if they could keep his stifle sound enough to show and sure enough in a very short time, he quickly earned 5.5 AQHA Heading Points of his own proving that his offspring accomplishments were not by chance. He is a great horse to be around and out produces himself every time. Jack has 3 AQHA performing offspring. Many of his other foals have gone on to be great rodeo horses or rope horses competing and earning money in different associations. We bought Jack with the idea to put him on our Paddys Irish Whiskey daughters and granddaughters. He has the moves that they do but in a bigger horse package.
Gimli is FLASHY! Those high rear whites are a classic Whoop through Gimli’s dam, Fin. As stated above and worth repeating… We have retained the full brother, Condor Bartender JW, as a stallion prospects and he is checking all the boxes so far with his disposition, homozygous roan, no white and 7NN. We also retained 2023 Larimar Bartender JW for our program. Gimli will be a fantastic proven cross for someone. With both Jack’s proven offspring and Fin’s proven pedigree, he should be able to really shine whether it is in the arena, breeding barn or show pen! He is genetic 5 panel N/N. We are waiting on Fin’s 7 panel to see if he is 7NN by parentage. We tested his roan, and he carries only one copy of the roan gene. Gimli could be a strong stallion prospect.
