Born 4/24/20. ‘Houston’ is a bay roan stallion with no white markings. We have chosen two themes this year to name our foals, one is using names of Texas cities or towns and the other to continue with western names for only our Whoop foals.
Houston’s dam, TDM Smart Bronsin aka Smarty, was purchased from Swenson Martin Quarter Horse and Cattle Company as a yearling. Smarty is one of her sire’s first foals and comes from a North Dakota ranch that raises and uses geldings who sell later on as top notch ranch horses at various regional sales including the Ken McNab sale in Wyoming. Smarty’s sire, Docz Coy Bandit, goes back to names that speak for themselves such as Smart Little Lena, Fritz Command and Doc Bar. What caught our eye the most was Smarty’s bottom side. Her dam goes back to PC Bronsin owned by Crago Performance Horses in Belle Fourche SD. PC Bronsin is a son of Sun Frost and he himself is very impressive and leaves behind a remarkable entourage. He won the All-Around title at the World Foundation Quarter Horse World Show at the age of 15. Placing or winning in nearly every event really showed his versatility and style. Smarty’s first foal, 2018 bay roan filly Whiskey Up France JW by Whoop Up Whiskey is now in Montana with a repeat buyer. Her 2019 foal, Top Gun Power JW, is a full brother to this one and went to live with repeat buyers in Georgia and Alabama.
Top Gun Whiskey is one of four Paddys Irish Whiskey sons that we have owned. This is his second foal crop. We decided to give Top Gun a shot at the show ring before breeding him. In 2016 he qualified for the AQHA World Show in Jr Reining, Jr Reining Level 2 and Jr Cowhorse Level 2; in 2017 he qualified for the AQHA World Show in Jr Cowhorse, Jr Cowhorse Level 2 and Open Heading Level 2 placing 6th. It has been an interesting ride as he continued to show during the 2018 year as well as breed some of our mares for 2019 foals. Top Gun qualified for the 2018 World NRCHA show, was 2018 North Central Regional NRCHA Champion and has earned 47 AQHA performance points in reining, working cow horse, heading, vrh cutting, vrh confirmation, vrh reining and heeling. He also has his AQHA Open Performance ROM. Top Gun was injured during 2019 breeding season that cut his showing career short, but he still qualified for NRCHA Celebration of Champions in LTD Open Bridle. He was North Central Region NRCHA 4th place LTD Open Bridle and North Central Region NRCHA 9th place Open Bridle. Check out his stallion page for the most up to date information as we will change it as it happens.
Houston is a vigorous colt and should be a nice all-around prospect with a lot of style and stoutness. We are excited to see how he matures out. He should have plenty of athletic ability with a great personality to be pointed in any direction. We think he will size up in that 14-3 to 15 hand range. Congratulations Leah! We wish you all the best with him!
