Born 5-1-17. Some years we do a fun theme for names.  This year we decided to go with names of characters from The Lion King Movie from 1994.  Some of the characters will be more well-known than others and some names are from the sequel movies. Zira is Scar’s mate in the Lion King II movie.

 ‘Zira’ is a bay filly with no white markings. This is the third foal out of this pairing. We were very pleased with their other foals and this one is not a disappointment either! Zira’s dam is VG Docs Peppy Rose whose paternal grandsire was Docs Flying Bar and he stood at Texas A&M University. Through him, she still has Doc Bar on her papers and Jet Smooth and Mr San Peppy just off her papers.  Peppy Rose’s bottomside may not have great names close up, but she is still a very well bred mare.  Her bottom goes back to Skipper W, Three Bars, Gold Mount, Ed Echols, Oklahoma Star, Joe Reed II, Piggin String, Flying Bob, and even Man O'War to name a few.  Big Sonsation was a great-grandson of King.  Her 2010 filly, Peppy Riley Reed JW, is currently in Nebraska on a ranch; 2012 Bandersnatch Reed JW  was put down due to an injury. Her 2013 foal Macarena Reed JW is in Texas as a family horse. Her 2014 foal, Paddys Gin Riddle JW, is currently in Wyoming as a performance and stallion prospect with Drew and Heather Nielsen. Her 2015 foal, Paddys Gin Reba JW, stayed with a family in ND.

Zira’s sire is TRR Paddys Texas Gin aka Tex. This is Tex’s ninth foal crop. He puts very thick and muscular foals on the ground with very nice muscle expression on them as well as a lot of athleticism and as they develop they have a lot of vigor. The oldest ones have been started under saddle by various buyers and we are hearing good things from all of them. The Paddys Irish Whiskey horses are making a name for themselves in everything from cutting to cowhorse events to roping horses and are very versatile—Tanquery Gin, Doc O’Lena, Docs Starlight, Poco Tivio, Peppy San Badger. Zira will have plenty of ‘cow’ to go any direction whether it be performance horse, rodeo horse, or an all-around ranch horse. She is pretty, feminine and should have an A+ disposition.  All of Peppy Rose’s foals are very easy going.  

Update 6-17-18:  Zira is a big girl with a very kind eye. She is a very kind girl.  She has now been sold to the Losey Family in Wisconsin and we wish them every success with her.
