Born 6-26-08. We named her“Strawberry” because she was born sorrel and we expected a red/strawberry roan. She turned a silvery blue at her first shedding and at weaning time she looked like a chocolate roan. In reality she is a very dark chestnut roan with varnished lower legs and a black mane and tail. Her tail has some reddish highlights. She has a few white forehead hairs and a smidge of white on her rear right pastern. The name stuck because we never thought of anything better. Her mother, Fancy Roan Belle, has had seven previous foals and they have ALL been roans. The mare is an awesome 87% NFQHA producing mare with one stallion standing at stud and we are riding another bay roan daughter, Docs Fancy Roan (maternal sister to Strawberry). Strawberry's bottom side pedigree is deep in Reeves breeding from South Dakota--Fancy Roan Bar, Roan Bar, Bell Boy Bar, Tom Baker, Bar Nothing Springer and Bartender. You cannot ask for a better foundation, ranch, cow or arena bloodline. Her sire Mr Salty Peponita was 100% foundation and was by Peponita. As a granddaughter of Peponita, we look forward to eventually adding her to our broodmare bunch. Strawberry is 93.5% foundation and eligible for registry. We continue to be very impressed with this young filly. Her disposition is first rate and she's filling out just right. She was a pasture greeter and continues to be friendly and easy going.
UPDATE 6-17-10. She is laid back and difficult to get good pictures that truly do her justice. She draws a lot of attention in the pasture with her unique coloring. Strawberry will be started under saddle in 2010 and we'll go from there. The earliest she will be bred will be 2011 for a 2012 foal and perhaps we will ride her longer. Thank you to all the people who have expressed interest in this fine filly!!! Watch for her foals in the future.
